You’re never too old….

look what i did?!?!

meRidingChloe It was so much fun.  I was not nervous at all, suprisingly, but it’s probably because for the past 3 weeks, I have been spending as much time as I can when Jen is at the barn, getting to know Chloe.  Honestly the first few days i was a little intimidated by her because she is young (therefore has lots of energy) and she is BIG (bigger than Calvin anyway).  But Jen would encourage me to brush her and she gave me tips on how Chloe likes to be hugged — facing out sort of under and to the side of her neck with your arm under and around her neck.  She now lets me kiss her nose and is incredibly gentle, despite her largeness.  It’s funny, just when you think your heart can’t love anymore because it is so filled with love for so many other things, the heart miraculously finds a way, without any trouble at all.

It was a short ride, down the dirt driveway and back.  Chloe was curious as to who was on her back since she could see Jen in front of her leading us.  Chloe’s ears would curiously flick back listening to my inexperience, all the while being very patient.  I wanted to lean over and wrap my arms around her neck and hug her.  But I didn’t because i would surely have fallen off.

I think she has a nice gait… it felt more comfortable than the Rocking Horse Ranch horse i rode.  and i felt safe on her strong body and strong legs.

She let me slide off her back when we were done.   Never moved as I fumbled off the saddle.  And for that, I gave her yet another big kiss…

2nd date

yes it is happening!  this Saturday November 17th.  Our 1st date was 2 weeks ago.  Her name is Chloe, a Percheron/Quarterhorse cross.  she is lovely and beautiful and sweet and she can jump to the moon and back.

Personally, I think these two make an adorable couple:

We will be going back to Scotland, CT to have Alison check out Chloe and see how Jennifer and Chloe ride together.  I am keeping my fingers, toes and eyes crossed.  But I think it is going to almost very definitely for sure happen.

I’ll keep you posted!

p.s.  Calvin, please know that we will ALWAYS love you and visit you and take care of you as well… you have helped Jen become the great rider that she is…

laying out my pearls

my life as described would be as it would seem
as a saw-mill destined curving stream
over here on this side, the other is where to be
still not a boat nor bridge, no f’ing way around,
just lots of logs, like dreams that had fallen down
still it is the other side
that is where i’m bound
so onto the logs, across as i go
they tip they sway these f’ers even roll
swamped by the waters that make them float away
i guess that’s how i feel on this very day.

chrysanthemum

i have LOVED all of Kevin Henkes books and so have kelly and jen.  but Chrysanthemum will always be my favorite, probably because it was the first Henkes book i ever read them…  and i love the sayings on the grandmas shirts in several of the illustrations!

be fruitful

this is the last of the 5 baby bunnies, the sole survivor.  we released him into grandmom’s front garden.  he has really started using his legs, hopping around everywhere.  i think he needed the freedom from the box he was living in (with his litter mates).  between the fresh air, clean surroundings and being able to stretch his legs — he was starting to drag them in the box, almost as though he was paralyzed — he seems to finally be thriving.  we let him out before we headed to the beach.  he had disappeared when we returned, with a sighting 2 houses down.  by cocktails, he was back by the porch.  i think he may recognize it.  we gave him some lettuce and cabbage which he happily nibbled on.  and although he does not want to be handled, he does come right up to us, sniffing our feet or fingers.

he recognizes the house that saved him.  i hope he stays around for a while.

p.s.   he’s sort of smitten with the pink hibiscus flowers.  and by smitten, i mean pleased with how they taste…

she passed her D3 ratings!!!

walk, trot, canter, gallop, trollop and all!  🙂   6 grueling hours…

the trollop gait is based on a conversation i had with eric prior to jen testing:

eric: “so if her horse is cantering and wants to do a trollop…”
cat: “um… it’s trot or gallop, not trollop. and please don’t say, ‘do a trollop’ in front of the judges. you’ll probably get slapped.”
laughed so hard it came out my nose.  🙂

isn’t she amazing and cute and all adorable looking?

yay, jen!! yay, calvin!!

slow loris

reminds me of  Slow Irving, and almost looks like a hedgehog… and sloth.  this guy is adorable and i found the picture on the web.  unfortunately, Slow Loris’ are endangered and sadly made pets by some (as this little guy is), when they absolutely should not be.  but i do find this picture too sweet to pass up posting though since he his clutching the little umbrella almost human like.  good luck to all the Slow Loris’ out there.  be fruitful and multiply!
